What If You Didn’t Rush the New Year?
✨ Sacred Sunday Slowdown: Honoring Winter’s New Year ✨
Hi lovely,
The Gregorian calendar tells us the new year has begun.
Fresh starts. Big goals. Forward momentum.
And yet… nature tells a very different story.
The earth is still in winter.
The trees are bare.
The soil is resting.
Seeds are not pushing yet—they are dreaming.
This is an important reminder for your nervous system:
You are not behind. You are in season.
Winter Is Not for Forcing
From a biological perspective, winter is a time of conservation and recovery. Energy naturally pulls inward. The nervous system benefits from slower rhythms, more rest, and fewer demands.
When we ask ourselves to sprint at the very moment nature is asking us to soften, tension builds. Burnout doesn’t come from lack of ambition—it comes from moving out of sync with our internal and external rhythms.
If you’ve felt resistant to the “New Year, new you” energy, there is nothing wrong with you. Your body may simply be responding wisely.

If You Set New Year’s Resolutions… Let Them Be Gentle
If you did set intentions or resolutions, consider holding them differently this year.
Let them be:
-
Small and attainable
-
Rooted in self-care
-
Sustainable over time
-
Supportive of your nervous system, not stressful to it
Instead of asking, How can I do more?
Try asking, What helps me feel more resourced?
Winter intentions might sound like:
-
“I will protect my sleep.”
-
“I will take one slow breath before switching tasks.”
-
“I will choose consistency over intensity.”
-
“I will listen to my body before pushing.”
These are not lesser goals. They are regulating ones.
Big Dreams Belong in Gestation
If you’re holding big visions—creative projects, career shifts, personal transformations—this season isn’t asking you to execute them yet.
Winter is the gestation phase.
Just like a seed beneath the soil, your dreams need:
-
darkness
-
stillness
-
nourishment
-
time
There is important work happening beneath the surface, even if it isn’t visible yet. When spring arrives, momentum will come naturally—without force.
🌑 Sacred Sunday Winter Ritual:
The Gestation Pause
Set aside 10–15 minutes. Light a candle if you’d like.
1. Settle the Nervous System
Place one hand on your heart, one on your belly.
Inhale slowly through the nose.
Exhale longer than you inhale.
Repeat for 1–2 minutes.
This signals safety and helps your body downshift out of urgency.
2. Reflect (Journal or Quiet Contemplation)
Ask yourself:
-
Where am I being asked to rest more deeply?
-
What feels tender, tired, or in need of care?
-
What dreams or ideas are quietly forming, without pressure to act?
No fixing. No planning. Just noticing.
3. Choose a Winter Intention
Select one gentle intention to carry through the coming weeks.
Make it supportive, not demanding.
Examples:
-
“I will move slower when I can.”
-
“I will honor my capacity.”
-
“I will recover before I push.”
Let this intention be your anchor until spring.
4. Close with Trust
Take one final breath and remind yourself:
I don’t need to bloom yet. I am allowed to rest.
A Final Reminder
You are not late.
You are not failing.
You are not meant to be in full bloom in the middle of winter.
Honor the season you’re in.
Let your nervous system recover.
Let your dreams gestate.
Spring will come.
With warmth,
Megan
