This Season Isn’t Asking You to Hustle
✨ Sacred Sunday Slowdown: Living the Pace of Winter
Hi lovely,
Last week we named something important:
even though the calendar says “new year,” nature is still very much in winter.
This week, I want to take that understanding one step further.
Because knowing we should slow down
and actually letting ourselves slow down
are two very different things.
Winter Isn’t Passive — It’s Strategic
In nature, winter isn’t a mistake or a pause between “real” seasons. It’s a necessary phase of recovery, repair, and resource conservation.
Biologically, this mirrors how your nervous system works.
Periods of output are meant to be followed by periods of:
-
integration
-
restoration
-
low stimulation
-
inward attention
Without these phases, the system doesn’t become stronger—it becomes depleted.
If you’re feeling foggy, unmotivated, or resistant to pushing right now, it may not be procrastination. It may be wisdom.

The Subtle Pressure to Perform Anyway
Even when we intellectually accept winter as a slower season, many of us still carry a quiet pressure to keep up.
To be productive.
To make progress.
To “use this time wisely.”
But the nervous system doesn’t recover through efficiency—it recovers through safety and spaciousness.
Winter asks a different question:
What happens if I let myself be supported instead of driven?
A Small Reframe for Your Goals
Rather than asking:
What should I be doing right now?
Try asking:
What would help my system feel more resourced this week?
This reframe keeps your intentions aligned with regulation instead of urgency.
Progress that emerges from a regulated nervous system is slower—but it’s far more sustainable.
🌬️ Sacred Sunday Ritual: Practicing the Pace of Winter
This is a simple ritual you can return to throughout the season.
1. Downshift First (2 minutes)
Sit or lie down.
Inhale through the nose.
Exhale slowly through the mouth.
Long exhales tell the nervous system there is no immediate threat and no rush.
2. Name the Season You’re In
Silently or out loud, say:
This is a season of rest and repair.
Let your body feel what it’s like to stop resisting that truth.
3. Choose One Winter-Aligned Action
Ask yourself:
-
What would feel nourishing instead of productive?
-
What would restore rather than advance?
-
What can be done gently—or not at all?
Choose one small action for the coming week that honors winter energy:
-
earlier nights
-
fewer commitments
-
slower mornings
-
more warmth, quiet, or stillness
4. Release the Need to Be Ahead
Place a hand on your heart and remind yourself:
I don’t need to be ahead. I need to be well.
Let that land.
What You’re Doing Now Matters
Even if it doesn’t look impressive.
Even if no one sees it.
Even if it doesn’t translate into immediate results.
Rest is not a delay.
Slowness is not failure.
Gestation is not stagnation.
You are laying groundwork—neurologically, energetically, seasonally—for what comes next.
Spring will ask you to move.
Winter asks you to listen.
With gentleness,
Megan
