Somatic Experiencing, founded by Dr. Peter Levine, intertwines seamlessly with Polyvagal theory, to offer a holistic approach to stress reduction. Grounded in the understanding that trauma can be stored in the body, Somatic Experiencing guides participants through a gentle exploration of bodily sensations, promoting the release of tension. Dr. Levine's method encourages individuals to renegotiate their relationship with stressful experiences, allowing the nervous system to discharge accumulated energy and restore a sense of calm. Polyvagal theory, introduced by Dr. Stephen Porges, complements this approach by elucidating the physiological mechanisms underlying stress responses. By incorporating practices that engage the vagus nerve, such as deep breathing and mindful movement, participants can activate the body's parasympathetic response, fostering relaxation and emotional resilience. Together, Somatic Experiencing and Polyvagal theory provide a nuanced framework for destressing, empowering participants to navigate their internal landscapes with compassion and reclaim a state of balance and well-being.
"Megan did an amazing job teaching various techniques in a fun and engaging way. She provided great information regarding the effects of stress on the body and how the practices she taught help us destress. My team is dispersed across the world and she has great energy in the virtual Zoom space. I look forward to more classes with her."
"This class was so fun! I will definitely use the techniques Megan taught. They are easy and surprisingly effective. I was also impressed with the amount of knowledge she had about stress and the body. I learned a lot and it provided the right amount of motivation to make some life shifts."
